    When you need a salty, crunchy fix: Reach for the pickle jar instead of the Pringles can. Dill pickles will cover both cravings, and each spear contains only one calorie.

    When you eat in a restaurant: Substitute steamed fresh vegetables for sides of potatoes, pasta, and rice. This simple adjustment will drastically reduce the total number of calories you eat and keep insulin levels low. It's also free of charge; all you have to do is ask.

    When you want Starbuck's: Opt for non-fat instead of whole milk, and avoid beverages with "mocha," "spice," "toffee," or "chai" in the name. On average, you'll cut the calorie-content by 75 percent.
