Black Tea lowers cholesterol
A recent study conducted by the Agricultural Research Service shows that drinking tea can lower LDL "bad" cholesterol. In this study those who consumed five servings of black tea per day for three weeks showed a 6-10% reduction in their cholesterol. Thus, drinking black tea, while following a low fat diet, has shown to reduce the risk of heart disease and reduce blood pressure drastically.
Of the three types of tea, green, black, and oolong, black tea has the highest consumption rate in the United States with approximately 90% of tea drinkers drinking black tea. Both green tea and black tea contain antioxidants, however black tea contains the antioxidants in more complex varieties, which may be the reason that it lowers cholesterol, and green tea does not.
Bottom Line: Drinking black tea can help decrease blood pressure and may reduce your risk of heart disease.
