  • question on supplements

Greetings all! I have recently begun working out and actually paying attention to what I eat, and I have a couple of questions on supplementing my diet:

    1) Why do so many protein bars seem to have quite a bit of fat/saturated fat/cholesterol?

    2) I read in a post in another thread that one should not consume caseins with a post-workout protein shake. Would this preclude using skim milk in said shake, considering the casein in the milk?

Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Re: question on supplements

Manufacture's add those ingrediants for taste, so when looking at protein bars look look for ingrediants like palm oils, sat fats, and simple sugars. As far as the caseins in protein, i hear that it is a slower acting protein that has anti-catabolic properties, but is better taken when the body has a slower metabolic rate, so in that being said, casein would be better taken in the evening or before bed, as it would be utilized more efficiently. I notice they are using casein in these night time proteins. IMO, its just another hype to sell protein. If you stick with a good quality whey protein you will have just as good if not better results and i won't hurt your wallet as much.

'ppreciate it Mick. I try to read as much as I can here and other places. Even still, I'll probably have about a thousand more questions in the next few months. So I hope everybody can be patient with me
