  • question about drinking alcohol

i know alcohol inhibits muscle growth. my question is lets say i work out on friday. i want to go out drinking with my friends on friday or saturday. to help prevent as much loss as possible, would it be better to drink day of workout, so the next day its out of my system, and the muscles start to heal then.. or drink the next day...
    5'10
    ~190 lbs

I like to help, but do I look like a drug ******? (The correct answer here is no) So please do not ask me for drugs.

i dont know either..i would think it doesnt make that much of a diff..it will still inhibit muscle growth either way. My question, that you guys will probly know, is what is the healthiest drink to drink if im trying to stay away from carbs and hate straight vodka or vodka tonic?

Alcohol to me is a setback in training. I think of alcohol as being estrogen, over do it and your going to have problems. I just don't drink. Studies have shown that alcohol will drop your test levels.

rum and diet coke(tastes like shit to me)
          whiskey
          bourbon
          scotch

if you dont like the taste of straight alcohol, then just get a splash of soda in it. its small enough to where there's not much carbs, yet enough to tell the difference.

there's also the good ole shots. pretty much anything without the mixers in it.

As beachgirl said, the difference is neglegable if at all...

IMO either youre an athlete or youre not...if youre an athlete, you take care of your body and dont pour a poison in your mouth while youre sitting in a bar full of cigarette smoke..Just MO..

my outlook is unless you are being paid for your body, or trying to get to that point... then you have to live some. dont be a lush, but enjoy life.

my best guess would be to drink when your body is not working its hardest to repair itself. so if you want to drink on a saturday night. do your heavy lifting on wed or thurs so you have a little repair time.

Very true....gotta have fun and live life and for most people it's fun to go out drinking with some friends. Once a week won't kill ya. Doesn't make a difference when you workout or not....just don't let the drinks make you miss a workout.

I'd rather drink the night before my off day, because whether you feel bad or not my energy level is down

alcohol itself will raise insulin levels... so getting a diet coke with rum really isnt all that much better than getting a regular coke.. if its 4oz coke, youll save 16g carbs, but your insulin levels will go up anyhow.. if you are watching your carbs, you shouldnt drink. if you do, it should definitely be considered a cheat.

Alchohol is evil...as are all the recreational drugs that people use, hence I stay away from all of that stuff. However, I have no problem what so ever with women using any of these, as it tends to make me seem much more attractive...lol.
