  • chicken breasts

    Very basic question:

Where do you buy chicken breasts? Which brand? How much should I pay? Is it best to buy a huge pack of frozen deboned breasts? What is the easiest way to prepare the frozen ones?

So many peoples' diets I've seen lately include up to 10 chicken breasts a day so I had to ask these questions! I've been spending too much $$$ on red meat so I'd really appreciate it if someone could be thorough with answering the questions. Much love to all my FG bros! Lots of thanks in advance!

I don't want to sound snooty, but I would NEVER buy anything FROZEN to stick in the temple. Think about it: we spend all this money to improve ourselves, why would you stop just short of FRESH to save a few cents? Anything frozen NECESSARILY goes through cellular damage. People pay more for 'flash' freezing, so why not just buy fresh?

If you shop every 3-4 days you can reward yourself with the best.

As for the chicken breast, I usually buy whatever looks good in the package... yet it would be fun to slaughter it myself (Oh well).
I know nothing about any of this insanity... it's just a fun game to me.

Could someone please tell me how to prepare frozen chicken breasts? Preferably something easy that doesn't leave too much to clean up. I don't have a dishwasher.

Yeah. So, I think I should put about 4 in the refridgerator for the next day so they can thaw. Then I wait 24 hours or so and put them on a foreman grill? I should get one of those! I have been frying them up with some MCT or olive oil on a frying pan. I guess I expected some people to do it a little differently. Does anyone wrap them in tin foil and put them in the oven? That seems the easiest.

Frozen in bulk from the wholesale clubs, I use a crock pot, throw 5 or 6 in there when I leave for work and done when I get home. Also, after they are cooked, I shred them up and put them in a zip lock, makes it easier for me to mix the proper amount in with some brown rice and salsa for a quick meal.

To elaborate bass, there are things in my freezer other than water... I don't eat any of them. Fruit - fresh, Vegetables - fresh, Meat - Fresh (in meat keeper in fridge, of course).

The great thing about eating fresh food is you don't have to wait for things to thaw out. I'm too lazy to plan for the next day by taking something out of the freezer. I'd rather run to the store and pickup fresh steak and chicken. I really don't see any major price difference, so what's the point to buying frozen? In fact, most frozen foods are incredibly expensive. Why not buy your sweet potatoes in huge bulk quantities and freeze them? I've never heard of anyone doing that, yet something as delicate as meat is frozen all the time.

In Europe, people shop almost everyday. Here in North America, people load up their carts on a weekly basis instead. I think it is really a social convention to shop they way we do. Spend some time with a person who shops every day or every other day and your attitude will change. I guess habits are hard to break, yet my point was that if you're spending all kinds of money to improve yourself with juice, why stop just short in the food department?

                  Maybe it's just me.

i just thaw them out the night before and throw a whole rack in the oven and bake them. Sometimes i may marinate them with whatever i have on hand. I also make extra rice and vegies and store the leftovers in individual containers so i can take them to work or wherever i need to take them.

Fill a pot with hot tap water......throw your frozen chicken breasts in there (however many you plan to eat). They're all thawed in less than ten minutes. It's so damn easy. I just buy the big bags of frozen breasts...and when I'm ready to cook some up....throw a couple in a pot of hot water in the sink and in less than ten minutes they're ready to cook. It's really not hard at all.

The foreman grill is awesome. A little one is not very expensive at all.
