  • no dairy, protein before bed

Many people have been recommending removing dairy products from one's diet when cutting. Cottage cheese is supposed to be a good think to eat before bed because the protein is slow release. If one is not having dairy products, what should they eat before bed for a good source of slow protein?

Not really dairy products, mainly milk.

So regular cheese would be bad, but cottage cheese is ok? I'm confused...

Get low fat, low sodium and I think you'll be fine. Depending upon the make up of your cutting diet. Are you on CKD or Keto? Or just cutting carbs and doing your cardio, etc.?

I'm taking about 2200 calories a day, 250g protein, 100g carbs, and 90g fat. Carbs are in the morning and after workout. Sprints in the AM and cardio after my workout. My post workout meal is usually around 7:30 at night. Think I should add the cottage cheese around 10PM?

Wouldnt hurt, especially doing cardio twice a day (spints and cardio).

I've also heard that tuna, chicken breast, and egg whites are also good for the late meal before bed. Any truth to this?

Tuna because its high in protein, as well as chicken and each take awhile to digest. Myself, I couldnt sleep just having consumed chicken or tuna, I have to have something soft.

I usually have chicken as a last protein source 1.5 hours before bed because it digests slowly.
I would't know about the cottage cheese but my personal experience has learned me that when I cut out all dairy around 10 weeks out from a contest, I see a difference already after 1 week, I get a lot more defined and hold less water.

I sparingly eat it off season as well, all though I'm crazy for cottage cheese, I could eat 4 containers a day if you'd let me.

BUT, I've also heared of people leaving non-fat dairy in their diet and looking very hard - I guess it depend , I just see a huge difference in my own appearance when I cut it out.

Good look on the cutting! Are you doing cardio on an empty stomach?

I do my sprints on an empty stomach. Sprints don't take as long as cardio so I do them before I go to work. Besides, it's REALLY tough to do sprints after lifting.

So YJ, I'm thinking about throwing in two chicken breast before I go to bed. If I eat them like 20 minutes before I sleep, is that too close? Thanks.

no man, thats ok. i usually take whey protein/oatmeal (1/1) before i go to bed. i know, it is not the best proteinsource at that time of the day, but it tastes great and it is really easy...

Dairy products while cutting are mainly cut out for a competition diet only, because dairy products thicken the skin and during a show diet you want your skin as thin as possible. If you are just cutting I would cut the milk and cheeses but the cottage cheese is ok as long as it is low fat....
