actually i believe arnold won because he is arnold. the man is the greatest bodybuilder of all time, not because of his physique, but because of what he did for the sport. his charisma and charm helped give bodybuilding a face that the public could accept; joe weider saw that early on...
there were better physiques onstage that night... dickerson, mentzer, platz even. arnold was not in top form even though i thought he got harder than ever for that show. i would have given it to mentzer.
fucked up because mentzer retired after that disgrace.
i think arnold won because of who he was/is, not because he had the best physique on stage.so fresh and so clean clean

Arnold was a genetic wonder, guys. At 220 lbs. and 6 ft. plus, he would have, in his prime, looked as good on stage as any of the guys competing today. You can't really say that about any of the other guys he competed with back in the day, or anyone today. 220 lbs. would get you laughed off of the stage. Yeah, Ronnie looks like crap, but the type of physique he possesses is the physique that the bodybuilding world decided it wanted as an ambassador back in the mid-90s when they decided Dorian Yates had a better physique than Shawn Ray, Flex Wheeler, and Lee Haney. Bigger, yes, but not better. Guys like Ray, Flex, Haney, and even Lee Labrada got washed aside so we could pin the medal on the biggest, thickest testament to human growth that they could come up with.Comment
