has anyone ever given themselves a cotizone shot? i'm not far from mexico, and I routinely run down to Algadones for my families scripts...In fact I'm taking my 80 year old grandpa over for more dental work very soon. I was curious if anyone has ever given themselves a cortizone shot?

    Re: cortizone shot

I don't think I would do this. The shot HAS to be put in the right area or it won't even help. You also don't want to damage any tendons. I have also had shots that were xray guided to get the exact location.

6P6 YOUR ELBOW IS A HARD PLACE TO INJECT INTO THE RIGHT AREA.YOU COULD HIT SOMETHING OR NOT GET IT INTO THE RIGHT PLACE. ITS JUST ISNT INJECT AND SHOOT. THEY DIRECT THE PIN UP DOWN TO THE LEFT RIGHT AND SLOWLY INJECT THE MEDICINE

        Re: cortizone shot

i have had several. agree with the above. it would be very hard to get the medicine in the right spot. not to mention if you shoot into a tendon it will feel like electrical jolt and you may damage the joint if you move

I've never done them myself but I have had 2 in my knee. I was told that I should never get another one because even though it helps and feels better, it does more harm than good in the long run and with repeated use you're asking for trouble. I think if it's that bad coming from a doc, I wouldn't risk doing it yourself. Just my opinion.

No doubt, you can mess yourself up real bad with cortisone injections. Even drs mess up and shoot it wrong. Happens all the time.
I have a dr friend who does this stuff called prolotherapy, where he injects saline solution into tendons and stuff...supposed to regenerate soft tissue...wonder if any of you have had that done

                    Re: cortizone shot

I've done this between my L5-S1. I felt like doing cartwheels out of the Drs office. I felt great for about 6 months. Now I still have the pain. I wear a back brace for everything. Although, I know this isn't an answer to your question, it is support that cortisone does work for short-medium term pain management only. I agree with everyone above that cortizone should be left to professionals. Maybe since you are going to Mexico anyway, it shouldn't be hard to find an American doc dodging US malpractice insurance that will do it super cheap. With the amount of time that you can go pain free, it may be worth a shot. By the time it wears off, the tissue may have repaired itself. If not, you'll probably be pretty close to another trip to Mexico. Hope my non-educated advice helps bro.
