Researchers have discovered that the active component in oregano oil, carvacrol, inhibits the infectious potential of bacteria by preventing them from adhering to and invading cells lining the digestive tract.
The benefits of carvacrol did not require a high dose, or even a dose that killed the bacteria. A low dose sufficiently reduced the infectious properties of common foodborne bacteria.
If you are eating out or are concerned about the quality of something you are consuming, it is prudent to take oregano oil to help prevent a potential problem. As the researchers concluded, “These results broaden the spectrum of anti-microbial activity of carvacrol and support the potential of the compound for use in novel infection prevention strategies.”
