Researchers continue to conduct studies to help understand the many uses of herbs in traditional ayurvedic medicine. Inula racemosa is a popular remedy for blood sugar issues, cardiovascular problems, and weight loss. Several studies show that inula racemosa offers significant antioxidant and direct cardio protection as part of its method of operation.
An animal study that used a drug-induced heart attack demonstrated that inula racemosa maintained the status of a variety of important antioxidant enzyme systems, which are otherwise depleted due to the extreme stress and hypoxia conditions of a heart attack. Inula racemosa’s ability to keep antioxidants functioning better in the heart itself significantly reduced the amount of damage that occurred.
An experiment compared pigs placed on a high fat diet with some fed inula racemosa and a control group not fed inula. In comparison with the high fat diet control group, the pigs fed inula had lower total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL cholesterol and increased HDL cholesterol. Their liver and heart showed better antioxidant enzymes function, and a detailed analysis of the arteries showed less damage than the pigs that did not get inula. This demonstrated protection against accumulating plaque in the arteries even though all pigs were on a high fat diet.
While inula racemosa is best known for its role in helping blood sugar metabolism, people with blood sugar problems often develop cardiovascular problems at a higher rate. Inula racemosa is one nutrient that helps both problems.
