  • Resveratrol Inhibits Markers of Alzheimer’s While Extending Lifespan

The SAMP8 mouse (senescence-accelerated prone mouse) ages faster than normal while developing cognitive decline and the brain tangles of Alzheimer’s. Resveratrol dietary supplements extended the lifespan of this mouse, as well as reduced the formation of the excess amyloid associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
Regular intake of dietary resveratrol activated multiple longevity genes such as AMPK and SIRT1. This resulted in reducing cognitive impairment, and the tau hyperphosphorylation that contributes to the formation of excessive amounts of beta amyloid – the typical markers of Alzheimer’s.
While this is an animal study, it is quite impressive, especially considering the number of people with age-associated cognitive decline. This study adds to a significant body of science that supports dietary resveratrol to extend life and help protect your body from a variety of stressors.
