Believe it or not teenagers are amongst the most active age group on the planet. Teens today have more activities than at any time in recent history. High schools kids not only have to go to school, but many of them have jobs and also play sports. This amount of activity is sure to make kids feel overworked and tired. Many of these teens are turning to dietary supplements such as protein bars and shakes for quick nourishment. But are supplements safe for teens?

Not all supplements are created equal and the reasons for taking them vary from person to person. Teens that are looking to take supplements usually what them for three main reasons: quicker gains from working out, faster weight loss and/or more energy for daily life.

Many of the supplements on the market today that help with faster gains in muscle also affect the hormone balance in the body. The last thing a teenager needs is a messed up hormonal system. Supplements that add testosterone need to be avoided at all cost. Simple protein products that contain a lot of amino acids should be high on the list. Amino acids occur naturally in all humans so adding them to a teens body will do no harm at all.

These types of fat burners use natural things to speed up a person metabolism.

Teens that are looking for dietary supplements that will help increase energy should understand that a proper diet and exercise program is the best thing to increase energy levels. Most dietary supplements that are created to give energy have to high of a level of caffeine for most teens to take in one day let alone one supplement. Kids looking for ways to boost energy should turn to food that have complex carbohydrates and are low in added sugars. Fruits like apples, pears and oranges taste great and will also boost energy. What about Creatine for teenagers? I think its consumption by teens is widespread. Not sure there have been all that many adverse reactions to it.

        Great read MrzD.

I think its not so much about how safe or unsafe supplements are for teens as I do believe if taken properly, most OTC supps are ok but I think its more about kids thinking that supps are a replacement for proper dieting and training. They become under the impression thats these supps will allow them to eat whatever they want and train half ass and still end up looking like Mr O.No different than wiith AAS.No amount of supps or druhs will make you into anything that you are not especially without putting the dedication into achieving these things.

I also feel thats teens who do start taking a shit load of supps and do not achieve the results they were dreaming would happen are more prone to turn to AAS sooner in the hopes that at last they will get the results they want. All the while still not following a proper diet and exercise program.
