  • How Your Body Is Warning You About Your Diet

You may be confused about diet and nutrition, but your body is probably quite clear on the subject. If you listen to the symptoms, cravings, and habits of your body, you will find out quite a bit about how to eat better and get healthier. Here are a few ways your body might speak to you.

    1. Your body gives you signals to eat more.

You might experience hunger urges that are almost impossible to resist. You may think your body is telling you that you need more food, but it may really be warning you that your diet is not well-balanced. In fact, you may be eating a diet that is too high in sugars and other carbohydrates or you may be eating meals that are too large but spaced too far apart.

    2. Your body might send you specific cravings.

Many people crave sweets, salt, meats or caffeine. There is always a good reason for these cravings. Often it means that you are eating or drinking too much of the food. This is often the case with sweets, salts and caffeine. Many people crave meats when they are low in iron. That is, of course one way to get that iron; but there are other substitutes as well, such as fresh spinach or turnip greens. Low protein can also be a problem, and again, meat is just one possible solution.

    3. You might develop an unhealthy relationship to food.

You may eat when you are bored, when you are not in the least bit hungry. You might decide to forget your diet, throw your hands in the air, and pig out. On the other hand, you may face a serious conflict every day about your diet and nutrition. You cannot decide to stay on your good diet or to throw it out the window. If you are having all these destructive behaviors, chances are you are not supplying your body with the proper nutrients to fuel your brain and your nervous system. When your brain is functioning well, dieting will be easier for you.

    4. You might have digestion problems.

Indigestion and acid reflux can be problems caused be a poor diet. Diarrhea can be a sign of an allergy, food sensitivity, or just poor selections. Constipation can be the result of not having enough fiber in your diet or too much of certain other foods. If you find yourself using a lot of antacids, laxatives, or diarrhea remedies, it is time to examine your diet for potential problems.

    5. Your energy might be affected.

If you are not eating properly, you might feel fatigued all the time. If your diet has caused enough damage, you might even feel more tired after you eat than you did before you ate. If you do have energy, it may come in bursts during the day, followed by devastating crashes. If this happens, you need a diet and nutrition overhaul. Listen to your body and adjust your diet accordingly; you will be healthier and happier now and in the future.
