    Stone loading

A great way to practice technique for those just getting into strongman and stone lifting is to use a relatively light stone (200-230) and lift it to the platform as many times as possible without rest. Using this method you can easily do a couple sets of stone lifts and get 20-40 loads in without spending hours unloading and setting stones up for each 5 stone medley. The best way I've found is to load the stone and roll it across the other side to my training partner who drops it down to the catch tires and rolls it back to me under the platform. Other ways to do this is to roll it over the platform then run to the other side each time for the next load. This method could also be done using a tire of the right height, just have a guy or two there to stabilize the tire for you. Doing it this way is also very good for foot speed and conditioning. You'll find that after a 20 rep set of consecutive stone loads a quick 5 stone medley that takes 25 to 40 seconds seems like a walk in the park.

      Tire Flip

Wow, this movement is awesome, plain and simple..AND FUN!

Most people make the mistake of lifting with the legs only, and what happens is their legs extend and their upper body remains down.

This is closely resembling a power clean - I've noticed guys with O lifting backgrounds have great technique on the tire flip

You are trying to rip the weight up as fast as possible

keep the chest against the tire and think of running into the tire while lifting up

when the tire is almost veritcal, switch from underhand to grip to pressing the tire

if the tire is very heavy you will need to assist with the knee when the tire gets to mid thich height

jam the forearms under the tire and run INTO the tire...switch hands to pressing when tire is almost vertical

the guys who lose the tire flip or have to bail often try pressing the tire when it's at a 45 degree angle, this is quite impossible!
