I had a nasty abscess in quad in 2008. Clean gear, clean prep, always clean pins. For done reason quad blew up. Had the sharpie outline by ER doc and IV antibiotic treatment every 6 hours for 3 days then keflex for 10 days. Never pinned quads again. It is not a fun time. They discussed having to cut out the abscess if it didn't respond to treatment which would have made for a very ugly quad.
