I am a 47 year old male who has trained for about 4 years now. When I started at the age of 42, I was 5’11’ tall and weighed 240 at around 35% BF. Six months ago, I was at 228 pounds and 9% BF.

But, over the last six months my health hit the skids. Some mornings, I could not even lift my legs to get out of bed as both quad muscles felt like I had been doing 700-lb. squats! And, my forearm muscles, abs, triceps, etc. also felt this way. I felt completely fatigued all the time and ached all over. I have had 25 tubes of blood drawn over 3 appointments with specialists but they have not yet determined my problem. They say I have cryoglobulinemia, which is a disease where the body is mass producing antibodies to fight SOMETHING, which are also attacking good tissue. They have yet to determine the “something”.

I said all of that to say this:

I have stopped doing steroids on December 7th after taking 1000 mg of Sustanon weekly for the last 2.5 years. I also did 5 IU’s of GH daily, Monday-Friday. There were times when I’d do 400-600 mg of Deca for 10-12 weeks as well in the winter months. Now that I have stopped, I have gone from 228 at 9% to 209 at 22%. I have been taking 100 mg daily of Clomid, starting 3 weeks after my last injection, as well as 20 mg of Nolvadex. I have been on the PCT for nearly 4 weeks now and feel like, well, you know. Puny, fat, old…..

Some of my test results indicated an enlarged heart and a “huge” (physician’s words-not mine} prostrate gland. I have heard nothing more about the heart after several tests and an angioplasty.

I am considering starting back on cycle at some point, cutting my weekly dose to 500 mg, and cycling off in 12-16 weeks. When would be the earliest time I could start back from my last injection on December 7th? Should I even start back? I sure do miss the pump, the sex drive, etc.

      Thanks Guys {and Gals}

I wouldnt start back on anything until your prostate is back to normal per doctor says it is. and find why the heart is enlarged-is it because of the aas usage for 2+ years which could be possible. If the doc says your hear is fine then ok. But I wouldnt start back on anything until all my blood work came back normal

Thanks...they sent 12 tubes of on January 6th to the Mayo Clinic and said I should have the results in 2 weeks via a letter in the mail. These were test my rheumetologist ran.

I have never seen a real "focus" on the enalrged heart and it was only mentioned when they were unable to do a nornal stress test and did a chemical one instead. The doctor said that when I am under stress, it becomes enalrged and does not contract enough to force ample blood flow out of the heart. My primary care doctor sent me for an angioplasty but has not mentioned anything else about this other than there were no blockages. I have full confidence in my primary care physician as I have 2 friends who are anesthesiologists who use him as well and say he is the best internal medicine physician in our area.

Hopefully, I'll have the blood work back soon and mayh even return to my primary to have him run several tests in regards to test levels.

      Thahnks,

      Thank you...I have considered HRT.

Coming off cycle IS difficult BUT my history is "case in point" on why you should cycle off OR at least add HCG into the cycle. MY dad has had all kinds of prostrate problems so I am not sure yet that the steroids or the root cause of that. But, when I discovered that as well as the fact my heart was enlarged, I made the decsion to stop steroids immediately and see if my condition improved. And, it has improved a great deal. I was so fatiqued with joints aching as well as muscles, that I could not physically get out of the bed. The docs had me on Lortab and Fentyl pain patched for the joint and muscle dicomfort as the Lortab, taking 2 10mg at once, would at best take the edge off the pain. I no longer have the fatique or pain. My hands remain swollen and stiff but that is an aging problem. I just had my knee scoped with over 50% of the kneecap removed and both knees are "bone to bone" with no cartilage in sight.

Training is really tough. My max on bench for 2-3 reps was 365. Now, I struggle to do working sets with 185 when I DID do my working sets with 275. My wife, who is my avitar {and Alabama State Karate champ} is getting bigger and stronger than myself.

Thanks for the help and the prayers.

I don't know but my first thought would be: is this cryoglobulinemia going to be aggravated by injecting foreign agents into my body? ...or is the injection of foreign agents into the body the cause of this cryoglobulinemia?

That doesn't sound like a disease to be phucking around with. So that would be my first thought. Then again the steroids might have actually kept you from being in worse shape than your in - given that your strength has decreased so much after getting off of them.

What role does your doctors think the steroids played?

Good luck bro and definitely let us know how everything turns out.

My thoughts exactly.. I felt like the steroids might be the cause of the cryoglobulenemia and made the decision to stop and take that variable out of the mix.

I beleive I'll actually train without AAS for a time since I have never trained without it.

      Thanks,

Oh...and the doctors will not say one way or the other if steroids played a part in this. As a matter of fact, I have asked them all that question more than once with a leadoff like, "Well, Doc....After 2 1/2 years of doing large doses of steroids maybe this is why I have this problem???"

Their response has been: "Steroids offer a trade off. You get benefits to the body at a risk." I have never had one yet insist that I quit-just suggest that I might want to stop.
