what do you guys think is the best prescription med for acne is besides accutane.

i'm thinking about getting doxycycline but want to see if there's any other one which would be better for light to moderate acne

3-5 thousand mcgs of b5 (pantothenic acid) spread out through the day. I just started doing this, it is supposed to help out with acne, heard it helps shrink your pores? -crombie09

it depends on the person, each antibiotic will have different results with different people. get acnesil works better than anything and its over the counter

      Retin-A is a good topical.

Retin-A is extremely irritating to most peoples skin. it must be used in moderation... and it brings out the acne before it clears it... there for expect it to get worse before better...

Benzoil peroxide works ok.... docy is good... I have been using both, with little success though.... I have had my best success from straight rubbing alcohol and tanning.

I have had tried just about every prescription med for acne. Only thing that ever that worked was accutane. Retin-a is descent, but it is very irritating to the skin. B5 and benzoyl peroxide are a great combo. Doxycycline is a total waste of time imo, it did absolutely nothing for me. After accutane though, you don't need to worry about acne anymore.

also, differin gel is supposedly very similar to retin-a but without the irritating skin effects. It worked for about a month, then was useless to me.

I have used accutane and loved it. Everyone gets scared because of the possible side effects though. I took 80mgs a day for 5 months. 40mgs EOD wil work too.

How often did you use this, did it dry out your skin very much?

Don't bother with any topical or antibiotic. After 20 years of experience, and zits the size of golf balls all through college, nothing works except accutane. The side effects are no where near as bad as they say the are. When you get off you cycle, run accutane at 80 mg for 3-5 months. You will never have to worry about it again
