I would want to see it if BJ would come in freaking fired up. If BJ comes in with the mindset to beat the crap out of Fitch, I don't see any way that it won't happen. If BJ went into the GSP fight with a great mindset and the shape to go along with that, he would for sure give GSP the best fight he has had.

TweetBoth of you guys are on crack rock IMO. GSP is just way better than BJ AT 170. Prob the same way that Silva is just better than GSP would be at 185. BJ will NEVER have the endurance to go 5 rounds with GSP and with GSPs improved striking, better reach, and general smarts I dont see him getting KOd. GSP would still just be WAY stronger than BJ and be able to take him down. Could BJ win?....Sure, but I dont think it warrants a rematch and it wont be GSPs toughest fight to date. Maybe one of his tougher title fights, but it will not be anything like the first time they fought. BJ is training with Hughes so Im sure Matt can tell BJ how GSP cant knock you out lol.

Thats very bold. I agree that BJ is very good and has been a bit of an enigma because u never know if he has trained his hardest or what potential he really has etc. But the best BJ at 170 cant match up with GSP in my opinion. He will be smaller, weaker, with inferior cardio and takedowns. While GSP doesnt have the KO power BJ has, his striking is very effective still and he has better range and kicks IMO. GSP clearly has the better wrestling as well. The only aspect that BJ may be truly superior I guess would be BJJ, but if you cant take down and hold down your opponent then who cares. I think that the best BJ is the best 155 in the world but thats different. Still, Im not saying he cant win this fight, just that if they fought 10 times at 170 GSP would hands-down-no-questions-asked win more than BJ. Honestly i dont think its really fair to compare the 2 head-to-head much like i dont think its completely fair to compare GSP and Anderson head-to-head.

GSP will have the cardio advantage but BJs is getting better. I'm saying the best BJ...not the BJ that rarely shows up.

I hear you and agree that BJ def has shown better KO power and is more skilled in BJJ.

“BJ Penn is a multiple division champion so he deserves the shot. After knocking out Hughes so fast I wouldn’t see a problem if the UFC wanted to give him a rematch with GSP right away.

He has earned the right to fight anyone, anywhere and I don’t think he has to climb the rankings of anything.

Losing his 155 pound title wasn’t anything. He is still considered by everyone the number 1 contender at 155. For him to go in and knock out a hall of famer in basically one exchange that earns him the chance to fight the number 2 guy in the weight class.

As far as the fight with Fitch, it’s the same thing I always say about BJ fights. It depends on which BJ shows up. If it’s the BJ Penn that all the fans love shows up then Fitch is going to have a really rough night. It’s always about what BJ does it’s not really about what his opponent does.

BJ Penn fan and UFC welterweight fighter Dennis Hallman tells Pedro Carrasco of BJPENN.COM that he believes Penn is near unstoppable as long as his head is in the right place come fight time.

First touching on the fact that BJ’s second fight in the division is for a number 1 contender seat and then touching on his thoughts on the main event between Jon Fitch and BJ Penn scheduled for this Saturday at UFC 127 in Sydney Australia.

Many people share this UFC veterans opinion, the question still remains are there really more than one BJ Penn’s and is Penn’s focus before a fight always the deciding factor in the outcome?

It’s exciting having BJ back in the division. He’s one of the best in the world and to think of him as a potential opponent in the future is fantastic and it’s exciting for me. It’s something to aim towards.

It was nice to see him come out so well and aggressive against Matt Hughes and it’s always nice to watch Matt Hughes get knocked out.

I think the Fitch fight is a tough one to call. Fitch is a big welterweight, he is strong and he likes to grind out the fight and he is good at controlling the fight.

On the other hand, I think technically, BJ has got the edge with the boxing and the ground game. It’s a real toss up that one, it’s difficult to call.

If Jon Fitch can stay disciplined and not make any mistakes he might be able to grind out a decision but at the same time at any point I think BJ can finish it so it’s tough to call.

I’ll be watching it and I’m looking forward to it.”

As part of our ongoing UFC 127 pre-fight coverage, BJPENN.COM’s Pedro Carrasco caught up with welterweight contender Dan Hardy to discuss his thoughts on Penn’s move to 170. It was during this discussion that Hardy also shared his thoughts on not only the move in weight class but the pending match-up between BJ Penn and Jon Fitch.


While Hardy takes a neutral stance on the UFC 127 main event he does favor “The Prodigy” in the technical aspect of the fight.

I wouldnt bet my house on it….. i honestly think Fitch will grind out a hard to watch decision…. hard to watch no meaning BJ getting his but kicked like against GSP…. Hard to watch as in.. " w T F Do something"… i like both fighters… i HOPE bj proves me wrong and knocks him out…. or mata leon would be nice…. since we havent seen it in a while. )

Paul Kelly says BJ can beat anyone in the world at 170

Pedro Carrasco of BJPenn.com recently caught up with UFC lightweight competitor Paul Kelly. During their talk Carrasco brought up the topic of BJ Penn’s recent move back up to welterweight and asked him what he thought about the move. Kelly responded by saying this:

“I think that BJ is pound for pound one of the best fighters in the world. If he wants to fight at 170 then good luck to him. I think if he is comfortable, then stay at 170. He can beat anyone in the world at that weight, so why not.”

In his first fight back up at welterweight Penn KO’d Matt Hughes in18 quick seconds, which was a very positive sign that he was healthy and strong enough to still compete up a weight class. However, standing in his way now is one of the most dominant welterweights on the planet, Jon Fitch. Fitch has not lost a fight since he was pummeled by Georges St. Pierre in a title fight nearly three years ago. Now, with the talks of GSP maybe vacating the division, Fitch and Penn stand as possible champions in the welterweight division. But they now stand in each other’s way and will clash this Sunday (Saturday in U.S) in Australia.

Paul Kelly also gave Pedro Carrasco his thoughts on the upcoming war between Penn and Fitch. When talking about Penn and the fight Kelly stated, “I think it’s going to be a good match, but I think he beats Fitch.”

If Penn can get past Fitch he would surely be considered one of the best welterweights in the world, and I’m sure Penn fans would want him to finally prove that he can indeed beat St. Pierre and once again claim the welterweight gold. However, before those talks begin to brew Penn will have to deal with the grueling skills and fight style brought on by a hungry Jon Fitch. The fight is almost guaranteed to be nothing short of a war. So how do the fans feel about Penn’s move up in weight and his upcoming fight with Fitch? Is BJ better suited at welterweight or will he have too much to handle in Fitch? Penn fans, it’s time to speak out!
