Brandon Vera Confirms Bout With Hamill in August

MMA Spot’s Brent Todd is in Chicago attending WEC 40. At the event, he ran into Brandon ‘The Truth’ Vera. Vera, along with his manager, has confirmed to MMA Spot that he will indeed be fighting Matt ‘The Hammer’ Hamill in August. The fight will likely be at UFC 101 in Philadelphia, PA. Other outlets have run the story, but this has now actually been confirmed by Vera himself.

Vera (10-3), is 2-1 since dropping to the UFC light heavyweight division, and is once again poised to make another major impact on the sport. Much in the same he did to begin his heavyweight career. Vera burst onto the scene winning his first eight fights, including a victory over current UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir. He has gone only 2-3 since defeating Mir, but all three losses have come to top contenders Tim Sylvia, Fabricio Werdum, and Kieth Jardine. Vera did display a return to his devastating Muay Thai form by TKOing Mike Patt with leg kicks in his most recent bout at UFC 96 this past March.

Hamill (6-2), has come back strong following his loss to former middleweight champ Rich Franklin. ‘The Hammer’ has stopped both Reese Andy and wrestling sensation Mark Munoz with strikes. Hamill most recently knocked out Munoz with a highlight reel head kick at the same UFC 96 that Vera also competed.

A win by either fighter in this bout could catapult them right into the top echelon of the star studded UFC light heavyweight division.
I am really pulling for Vera to get back to his old self. I really liked him early on and then he seemed to just stop fighting. I am pulling for Vera here.
