TweetI wonder why everyone bad mouths BJ when he got cheated out of a fight and gsp cheated but everyone wants to say gsp smashed him,yeah he did but it was because of being greased up and cheated, what part of cheated doesnt people get.jipped you say bj gasses like normal. well he didnt gas for,sean,jo,jens at 155 he gassed at 170 due to the fact gsp was greased up but everyone doesnt think it happen.

TweetBrand new? When do you think they started the LW division? BJ fought at 155 in the UFC 9 or 10 years ago.
I can say that because he has been the best 155er the UFC has had. If he retires today, he will go down as the best 155er ever....or until someone does more than he has.

Prior to state sanctioning, weight classes were not mandatory since the competitions were held without the approval of the athletic commissions. For instance, the Ultimate Fighting Championship introduced two weight classes at UFC 12: heavyweight, which grouped competitors above 200 lb (91 kg), and lightweight, which grouped competitors under 200 lb.
Weight divisions underwent many changes in the coming years, but the ability of promotions to autonomously decide their own weight classes eventually disappeared after athletic commissions began supervising mixed martial arts.

- Technically a BW title fight, Jens won the belt by defeating Caol Uno at UFC 30.
- BW renamed LW at UFC 31
- Jens Def Dennis Hallman at UFC 33
- Jens Def B.J. Penn at UFC 35
- Jens was stripped of the belt and left the UFC due to a contract situation in March of 2002.
- B.J. Penn and Caol Uno fought for the vacant title at UFC 41 but it was a draw
- LW division was excluded from UFC 49 through UFC 58
- Sean Sherk defeated Kenny Florian for the vacant title at UFC 64
- Sherk defeated Hermes France at UFC 73
- Sherk was stripped of the belt after testing positive for anabolic steroids on Dec. 8, 2007.
- B.J. Penn defeated Joe Stevenson for the vacant title at UFC 80
- Penn defeated Sherk at UFC 84
