TweetWHO KO'D FABER?
TweetAnyone watch it? If not you missed some crazy stuff. Faber got KOd, Pulver got KOd, Paulo was high or something, but he needs to step out and rethink some things. He some bigger mental issues than we will ever know about.

TweetMike Brown Meet The New Boss
It was the shot heard ‘round the mixed martial arts world, but from the man who fired it – Mike Brown - there are no flowery descriptions of the punch that separated Urijah Faber from his WEC featherweight title, no rants on how force equals mass times acceleration or something convoluted like that. For Brown, it was just years of experience coming together at the perfect time.
“I just saw him and I threw,” said Brown of the right hand that dropped Faber Wednesday night and set in motion the finishing sequence at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida. “Whenever I get close enough I’m just gonna swing with all my might, and if I land, then it’s gonna hurt.”
And when Faber hit the canvas, 13 years of blood, sweat, and tears flashed before Brown’s eyes as he saw himself only seconds from becoming what he had worked for his entire career – a world champion.
“I thought it might be over, but sometimes it’s tough to finish guys when they’re on their belly because you can’t hit them in the back of the head and it’s hard to get the right angles,” he recalled. “But I knew I had to jump on him quick because I didn’t want him to recover. I know he’s a great fighter and a great champ, and five rounds is a long time, so I thought if I could get out right now, it would be great.”
At 2:21 of the opening round, it was over, and Faber – one of the best fighters in the world, pound for pound and the seemingly unstoppable WEC 145-pound champion - had been vanquished by a 33-year old underdog who was suddenly awash in cheers from fans from his adopted home state of Florida.
A day later, the reality of being champion was still sinking in for Brown.
“This is the greatest day of my life, honestly,” he said. “It feels so good and it’s what every fighter dreams of. All my friends and family and everyone I’ve ever known called me to congratulate me today. I’m the world champ and it feels very good.”
What makes the win (Brown’s eighth in a row and 20th overall on a 20-4 pro slate) even more amazing is that he did it with torn cartilage in his ribs suffered just before he landed the crushing right hand that dropped Faber.
“I think the first left hook that set up the right hand, I felt like something popped when I was throwing the punch and twisting,
and the ribs felt like they were moving over each other,” said Brown.
In visible pain after the fight, the American Top Team standout was immediately brought to a local hospital for X-rays, where the torn rib cartilage was diagnosed. He is expected to be out four to six weeks.
“There’s nothing they can really do,” he said. “It’s painful, but it heals on its own.”
When Brown returns to action there will be no shortage of challengers lined up for him. In addition to Faber, there’s also Leonard Garcia and Jose Aldo, both of whom turned in eye-catching performances on Wednesday’s card, and suddenly, a division that appeared to have been cleared out by Faber is suddenly very competitive again. And the man currently ruling over the weight class welcomes all challengers.
“There are so many great fighters in the weight class and whatever the WEC has next for me, I’m just happy to be where I’m at,” said Brown. “I’m enjoying my moment and I believe I deserve it. I’ve trained so hard and I’ve been around the sport for a long time. I didn’t take any shortcuts and I earned my way there.”
And now that he’s here at the top, he has even more respect for what Faber did during his 13 fight winning streak.
“It’s not easy to win all the time and Urijah put on a great streak,” said Brown. “There are so many world class fighters that if you’re not ‘on’ one night, you can lose. And the same thing can happen to anybody. People were talking so bad about Anderson Silva when he was fighting (Patrick) Cote and it’s not easy to keep a streak going in this sport. In a matter of a split-second, you can win or lose.”
In a matter of a split-second on Wednesday, Mike Brown put it all together and won. It’s one of the feel-good stories of the year in MMA – a longtime veteran finally getting his shot at a world title and making the most of it. And though some could feel a letdown on the day after such a monumental victory, Brown’s not one of those people.
“It was worth it,” he said. “Many times you think it isn’t and you wonder what you’re doing it for. (In the past) I’ve thought ‘this is it, this is my last one,’ and it was hard because it was like I was destroying my body and not getting a lot out of it. But it’s all worth it right now.”

Tweeti saw it
palo was sad
i missed the early fights, i did not know pulver fought, who'd he fight, i like jens, sorry if he lost
TweetGarcia Ko'd Pulver.
Brown caught Faber big time. I have always been worried about the crazy strikes that Faber throws. He was doing his usual and then tried an Anderson Silva reverse elbow at the exact same time that Brown was throwing a right....Faber basically ran right into it. It was about the same thing that happened to Faber in the Griffin fight if you saw that one. In that fight Faber basically ran into the punch while trying to throw a superman punch.
I predict that Faber coasts back into a rematch and beats Brown the second time.
The bad thing is, if Faber hadn't got caught right there, he would have won because he had already broken Brown's rib and Brown could barely stand.

Tweettn,
wow, i did not know he broke a rib
what was weird in the post fight interview it looked to me like brown was in pain and i thought, weird, yet, so much was going on, didn't think much
thanks for info
TweetWell, I haven't heard confirmations that it was a broken rib, but I mean he could barely stand during the interview and he had to have help walking back to the dressing rooms...so I just assume that it was a broken rib. I mean Faber landed a huge knee before getting KO'd.
