OMG what a great skill to have. I saw a triple black belt in Gracy Ju Jitsu. Even though the guy looked powerful he did no power moves.
It was all body control (himself and opponent). It looked so simple. Save energy then explode at the proper moment. It is like looking at ocean waves, so calm but a rage can happen any time.
Does anyone else like this form of MMA?

I started martial arts with BJJ about 15-16 years ago. I trained 3 times a week for about 4 years and earned my blue belt. (My coach was stingy with belts) The lineage of my coach comes from the Gracie's as his coach was Carlos Machado who was brought up in the Gracie academy.

I lost interest when I started doing Muay Thai. Been doing that for 12 years and have not put on my gi in years. I have done some no gi rolling from time to time but I am way out of shape for grappling.

You are right about the waves. Out at sea they look slow and smooth then they crash on the rocks and it is fast and violent and then they melt back into the next wave. I was never verygood, nor am I very good at Muay Thai or boxing. I just love doing it.

the bjj we have here is pretty much garbage and doesnt follow the rules or guidelines set up by the federation that they use. it's all about the money and it shows. kind of funny when the big dogs come around the school cleans up what they are doing and covers up a lot of the rule breaking they allow. we do have a couple of gracie ran schools in the cities around us. the guys and gals here that are serious travel to those places to train. we do have a hell of a wrestling school here though that is ran by an college/olympic champ that is on active duty. he churns out some serious athletes out of his school

I am not that big into it anymore. It is so cliquish. Guys from this lineage and that will not train together in some cases because they do not want to give "secrets" to the other. Boxing and Muay Thai is better IMO. If you do Muay Thai you are family. Even when I went to Thailand last year. The Thai showed some respect for learning it and demonstrating it was not watered down drivel. Although they do feel superior due to their work ethics and toughness. They gave me a pass due to my age.
