I am tryin to lower bf currently so every day pretty much is a cardio day for me . I run a 5k 5 times a week. It currently takes about 35-45 minutes to do.
My first question is how important are target heart zones ? I notie while sprinting for a quarter mile I can easily hit 200-210 Bpm but not breath heavy at all no chest pains or out of breath, that number just seemed high to me.

Also if I wanted to add a little lifting to build my chest and shoulders up some and do core work to pull in my gut some, would there be any real issue with doing that on days I do my 5k? And would it be better to run first and then lift or lift first? I don't really have the time free to do more than one workout a day currently.

As long as you are having elevated heart rates due to the sprinting it is healthy. Sitting in the recliner with 200bpm would be bad. And hell yes you can workout and run on the same day. I would lift first then run. The reason I say that is it will warm those muscles back up and you wont be as sore. Just remember as you are burning more calories your body is going to need more so when you incorporate your lifting you may have to tweak your diet.

I think uping your protein will be a good idea. Diet will dictate if you grow or lose. Stay after it. And if you feel like giving up get under a squat rack and squat until you can't squat anymore then start over the next day. Thank you unclem.
