TweetIve done it. Not for a long time..a couple weeks...Hell, I trained them almost every day ...No I dont advise people to do the things I have done...LOL...
A lot was experimental.
Tweetdefinitely wouldn't be growing...now if it was sport specific you could do it but then again you'd probably be talking bands, extreme light weight with focus on movement and not bodybuilding type training...
Tweetyea i think you would end up with a serious injury after any kind of time. the body needs rest to recover.
Tweetproblems.............they get hammered everywhere else
TweetI have trained my calves every day before and they grew. Go figure.
Tweetya know...i think for calves and forarms a whole different set of rules may apply!! i know a guy that did forarms almost every day and his forarms were awsome....

TweetI think once a week is good because i know my front delts get hammered on chest day... so its not something i suggest. 3x a week is def overtraining
TweetVery good point here...the shoulders get smashed without even having a shoulder day. Think about it, as you said rob front delts get hit hard on chest day, and rear delts get hit hard on back day. This is why I train lateral delts on chest day and don't have a shoulder day at all.
To answer the original question though, I would say it is only okay to hit shoulders 3x per week if you are doing one exercise for them and no more than 3 sets. Say if I was designing a program for an extremely deconditioned woman who has never set foot in a gym before. I would put her on a full body routine. For shoulders I'd pick an exercise like an overhead DB press 2 or 3 sets only. No other exercises for the delts at all. She could do this 3x per week with at least 48 hrs rest between workouts and see results. Neurologically she could make great progress, and with such low training volume she can hit it 3x per week. Eventually when I wanted to introduce some more advanced techniques, like any isolation exercises, supersets, dropsets, etc for the delts and do any more than one exercise for the delts, I would say 3x per week is too much.
TweetI think it would depend on the athlete's experience, intensity, and level of conditioning. You could theoretically train anterior delts on mon, medial delts on wed, and posterior delts on friday. jmo
