      I occasionally get that kind of thing, too. Exactly the same kind of stabbing, grunting spasms. I have found that a good chiropractor who practices Active Release Techniques, which is a form of "soft tissue work" helps me immensely. A.R.T. has a website where you can plug in your location to find a provider. I have no association at all, just relaying that it's helped me. It isn't pleasant; if the guy is good, he digs deep and has you do movements which release the spasm. But it's effective.

      I've also found that my hamstrings and glutes tend pull on my lower back and cause low back pain, sometimes to the level you describe. Careful stretching of the hams and glutes has been helpful to me also. Hard to do that when you are getting those stabbing pains, I know. But I start off easy and keep at it.

      i have been trying to get him to do that for years now. the graston and art speed it up so much and make daily life so much more pleasant. not to mention more effective and pain free training
