Never used them but have seen them used. I have been using machine for the last year or so.

Well no one was using the smith the gym has 4. I did inclines on them. Regular grip, very wide grip. Then flat bench the same way. Then declines the same way. By the time I got through I was drenched in sweat with all the effort. I now like the smith.

The smith machine that’s at my gym doesn’t have the assistance cables. So whatever weight is the weight. I use the smith for ohp, rack pulls, front squats and squats. I don’t have a choice. We don’t have a squat rack yet. But it does it’s job

Smith Machine is a piece of junk in my opinion but it serves its purpose for some people I suppose. There is no activation of the stabilizers and nervous system and that will set a person up for injuries down the road. You can also pretty much destroy your rotator cuff with one. Smith machine is bad news and I dont use it for anything but standing calf raises

Since my fusion surgery about a year ago I have been easy and only use the machines you put the pin in to select the weight. I am easing back into free weights and will slowly ween myself off this. For now it is a great compromise

I like using it for my incline presses. Feels like it's easier for me to focus on taking my front delts out of the movement. When I go strictly free weight with inclines, my front delts tend to take over the lift.

sounds to me like you want to strengthen your front delts and expand you side delts??? Cannon ball shoulders.

i love the smith machine for incline presses. i had impingement issues way back in the day in right delt and went from being unable to do any incline benching to doing 275 on inclines with the smith. even after i had rotator cuff surgery on left delt (from jujutsu training, not lifting) the pecs came right back up after rehab. only issue i have is my old gym closed this spring and the new gym i am at has a smith with no cable assist so the 235 i was banging out 12 reps with this spring was down to 6 reps my first workout at the new gym, but gradually back up to 10 reps again. i havent used it for overhead press yet as without the assistance cable it's still a safety issue in my head for the repaired delt pushing big boy weight so i've been using the cybex shoulder press but overall with the exception of squats i love everything about the smith machine least of which is being able to go to absolute failure without a training partner/spotter and still having no safety concerns. to each his own, whatever works for your body and comfort level.
You may not recognize your mom when you get home, I shaved her back.

I don't have an ego, i just love how awesome i am !!

i have to use it for incline bb presses because the gyms incline setups are far to steep. no point in doing bb press for my shoulders when training chest. i think it has it's place in the line up as long as you are getting a variety of other stimulus and angles from other movements. i do both incline db and bb presses in most of my sessions anyway
