THE GUYS AT MY GYM THINK THE MACHINES ARE FOR WUSSIES AND THEY MAINLY USE THE FREE WEIGHTS.
WELL, AS I'VE GOTTEN OLDER AND JUST GOTTEN OFF BACK SURGERY, THE MACHINES REALLY HELP ME AT THIS POINT.

MY MEATHEAD BUDDIES HATE ME ON THE MACHINES THOUGH. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE MACHINES VS. THE FREE WEIGHTS?

      THANKS!

Well yes the machines do have their place in my workouts !!! I mean my joints are the same anymore and I can't keep beating the shit out of them all the time . So I do incorporate machines with some of my workouts !!!
Free weights are my favorite , I have to say !!! Nothing better for muscle building like some free weights , plus it just makes my strength increase and it's badass !!!
If anyone ever saids one is better than the other , wait a few years , joints don't always hold up , even with good form . So machines and free weights are key in Bodybuilding !!!

Tell your buddy's they can pay for your next surgery. Absolutely no problem with using machines, I'm a big free weight person but I use machines as well BUT especially since your coming off an injury I don't blame you at all.

Machines are for pussies! Just kidding...Hell yes, use machines, free weights and everything else but the kitchen sink. If a machine is easier on your joints then use them for sure. I always go to free weights first, but I dont use big weights like when younger and every exercise was as heavy as possible. I like the shoulder press machine, the tricep bicep machine...I will always detest the smith machine and refuse to use it for anything but calf raises....and of course hammer strength is always good shit

Man it all is in play but what I've learned with my big dog friends is machines have a real if not significant place in our training. Especially if you learn to use them in manners maybe the manufacturer didn't intend!

Also for aging and injuries it's the cats meow.

Also, pure and simple fuck them simple minded fools. I'm sure your physique is way better boss man

Machines definitely have their place. My workout is a pretty good mix of free weights and machines.

The machines have their place in the gym. For example, I need something to be able to set my gym back and shaker bottle on.. jk

you need a good mixture of both in your training. if one is only opting for one or the other they are shortchanging their progress. the old mindset of free weights only is absolutely outdated and stupid. can you build with just one or the other? absolutely you can but why would you not use all the tools in the tool box?

It's all in what's best for you. Hell, doing machines is better than doing nothing at all right? Plus I did the machine thing for a bit to lay off the constant dumbbell and barbell torture on my joints and got a hell of a pump on them

I definitely utilize both. Especially for legs as my back is wrecked.
