With my messed up kness. I can't go heavy on lunges at all so do you think they are even worth the effort?

Not many dudes even do them I know. I know some girls that want to do em 3 times a week and I tell them to go light and rep it out.

What do yall think. Do you do them? go heavy? rep it it out? not bother?

Lunges would be a personal choice actually man. I do them in my Crossfit programming here and there but they aren't a staple in my workouts. I'd much rather do regular squats or use front squats instead of lunges

haha, i do the hell out of them man and they dont even need to be weighted either to hammer the crap out of your entire leg. get creative to make it more intense, you can go for distance, you can go for time, you can do them as a part of a super set or multiple movements series. if they bother your knees man, try to open your stride up wider or shorter and make sure you are driving from the heel and with your glutes to take the force off the lower part of your quad/knee

Lunges are what made the most difference in my glutes and legs when I did them on a regular basis. If I even went slightly off doing proper form , that is when my knees would hurt. I think they are beneficial without adding any weight at all. Three times a week is what I would also do but not on consecutive days. I still occasionally lunge around the house lol

I also have to make sure I am going straight down into the lunge, no bending forward, just straight down almost into a 90 degree angle. I find this easier to do with out adding any weight. Oh and the ones I mostly do are walking lunges

i do crossfit too. do enough of them and i don't care who you are they will burn. with my back i cannot do heavy squats or deads so i do the prescribed girl weight when i go to the box.

kettle bell lunges are one of my favs. stay light and do 50 each leg. I bet during the second set you walk like a baby giraffe. i do them as it helps get me in shape for hiking up steep hills with a 50# pack

Like people have mentioned, no weight is necessary when doing a lunge to get a workout in. We do them in a total body conditioning class and an insanity class I do. Like guns suggested, switch it up. One of the hardest things for my legs is to stay low and after a long low set of lunges is to pulse them. Stay in the long low lunge position and just pulse it up and down. Its a damn killer. you can also try jumping lunges, where you do a jump into a lunge switching legs. Not sure how your knees would do with it but it is a great move. I do them in my Tabata workouts.

Lunges with a kettle bell are so challenging, you're so right genes. I usually use the 70lb kettle bell when I do them. Burn my legs up! Haha

I'd try stationary lunges if I were you. I get the same results with less pain in the knees.

I do them quite a bit. I like to super set them with my squats sometimes. No weights, just a good set across the gym with a wider stride in between my sets of squats. Usually have to crawl out of the gym on my hands and knees after that.

From time to time I'll do walking lunges with 95lbs on my back. Ten steps down and ten steps back and then finish the burn with as many squats as you can after your last step. The other thing I like is step ups on a bench. Again 95lbs is usually a good weight because I will do them later in a work out.

no real need for heavy weight on those bad boys man. do that at the end of your session and burn the piss out of them. you can get both growth and detail out of them doing it that way
