My wife turned me on to this method of training. It's not anything really new, I love the timing of the intervals and the types of exercises.
Its basically a 20 second on 10 second off HIT style of training. Its really getting me in some damn good shape. Perfect complement to my lifting .

      The History of Tabata
Tabata training was discovered by Japanese scientist Dr. Izumi Tabata and a team of researchers from the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Tokyo.

Tabata and his team conducted research on two groups of athletes. The first group trained at a moderate intensity level while the second group trained at a high-intensity level. The moderate intensity group worked out five days a week for a total of six weeks; each workout lasted one hour. The high-intensity group worked out four days a week for six weeks; each workout lasted four minutes and 20 seconds (with 10 seconds of rest in between each set).

The results; Group 1 had increased their aerobic system (cardiovascular), but showed little or no results for their anaerobic system (muscle). Group 2 showed much more increase in their aerobic system than Group 1, and increased their anaerobic system by 28 percent.

In conclusion, high-intensity interval training has more impact on both the aerobic and anaerobic systems.

I've been doing some research into this. My gf is about to start utilizing this method of training, so we'll see how it goes. Seems like a fantastic way to increase your aerobic and anaerobic fitness level and supercharge your metabolism.

Totally agree with this 100%. People spend way too much time in the gym doing half assed stuff and not enough time exerting maximum effort. I love it. 20 seconds on and 10 off. I can dig that.

Yes I am. I switch up my cardio a lot but it all kinda falls into this range of Tabata, the 20, 10 on off. My endurance is going up but I need to keep chalanging myself during the on times. I start to count now and know how many of certain exercise I can do in that 20 seconds. If I hit that number of reps my mind tells my body I hit the goal and to slow down. Stupid brain..... . It's still my favorite method of cardio for now. Did a glider machine, oh boy! Loved it.

Tabata is awesome! I ve been running 50 minute Tabata bootcamps for well over a year now and it's also a staple to all my weight loss challenges. The goal is to give 110% each round. Otherwise, if you just go through the exercises, you won't notice much change at all....if any. But it can be really effective using either bodyweight or strength training exercises.
