Has anyone tried or is currently doing Crossfit? I got into it and fairly recently opened up a Crossfit gym.
I still go lift heavy once a month...as I Crossfit 3 weeks...then my heavy reps and sets the final week of the month.
For me it is challenging and I love having to dig deep when you think you're not gonna finish or just flat out throw up lol

I've always used a lot of the principles in my training but I'm not a crissfitter. My little brother is huge into it and does the Olympics and all the comps in CA. I think it can be great if the form is kept in check. Actually my opinion is it's incredible for women. Crossfit women are so hot. It's like the perfect combo of aerobic and anaerobic. They make yoga pants look incredible.

What I see on the make side is a lean, tri athlete look that isn't for me. My brother does the football crossfit which has a lot more heavy lifts.

i agree with 6's point on cross fit. it may be for some but i see lots and lots of loose form and people getting set up for some nasty injuries. i guess that comes from pretty much any sport but to me heaving a heavy load while fatigued for multiple reps is just plain scary. then again i am getting old and broke down. great conditioning and great for women to add some nice lean mass gains on. the explosiveness for them is great for developing a great strength base

I agree with what 6 and guns said. Ultimately I think CrossFit is a great workout and definitely has its place for many athletes. Personally it's not for me though. I do think competitive crossed it gets way too violent and people use way too sloppy form in attempts to get as much as they can done with speed. I agree the women look great but it seems like 80% of the men don't even look like they go to the gym. I know that's not the point but if I'm going to spend time in the gym I guess I want to look like I go. I just love bodybuilding and powerlifting type workouts. I don't want to go into the gym every day and have to do an unknown WOD and what someone else tells me I have to do. After my competition I plan on going for a little bit more athleticism in my workouts and yes I will incorporate things like Burpee's and sprints and maybe a little bit more fast-paced circuit training but I will never be a CrossFit cultist.

Thanks for all the feedback! Lots of info there
I def can see where a lot of you are coming from with form..etc. Me as a coach, when I see bad form or anything of the sort come into play, I either adjust the weight or pick out a different exercise for the workout of the day.
Again...thanks for all of the feedback! I def will never stop just going into the gym and throwing around heavy weights...I love it!

Great post thread man and discussion. Ultimately as I age I would like to figure out how to integrate more of it into my "maintenance"! Lol!

      What I like about Crossfit:
      Gets people doing "big lifts"
Great for energy expenditure and conditioning.
I love their MOD - mobility of the day with Kelly Starret - lots of good points on mobility drills, stretches, etc.

What I don't like about Crossfit:
Timed - anything that time is the goal, then people will take short cuts to win.
      Kippling Pull-Ups
Average Joe trying to do it but haven't mastered the big lifts or don't get any instruction and just "wing it"
Squatting and deadlifting have their own techniques, but Olympic lifts are super technical and most can't do them worth a flip IMO.
I don't like the masses doing them. I work with a lot of folks that sit all day long. They don't have the mobility to hardly do a squat correctly, let alone an Olympic lift or overhead squat. I would rather only see athletic people or people truly dedicated to fixing their postural and mobility issues do crossfit.

been at my box for 5 months. go 2X a week is all i can make it with my Muay Thai training. i have seen a vast improvement in strength, flexibility, and an overall change in my body for the good.

we have to do a 12 week "on ramp" where the instructor took us through light reps and we worked on form, flexibility and stretching. i can see how if people get sloppy they can get hurt when they first start, especially without instruction. instruction and great coaching has kept me fairly injury free. I train with a bunch of savage firemen. these guys are beasts.

I was focused only on fight training and did no weights for years. i was not very strong in my grappling. young guys laugh after we roll and say i have "old man strength"

also my cardio has improved quite a bit.

qhams, i am not so sure i understand kipping either, as for the shortcuts to win in times things, you get a nasty ribbing if you do for the instructor. he will yell at you like boot camp that the only person you are cheating is yourself and that you won nothing as you cheated. then he gives you situps until you puke

i suppose in some boxes the instructor is there for $$$ and does not care, these guys i train with workout for their job, their safety and that of the folks they help. very disciplined which wears off on the 3 of us that are not firemen.

i like AMRAPs. "as many rounds as possible" 15-20 minutes of hell.

Since I did a lot of heavy lifting and personal training before Crossfit...I do know the benefits of both sides. I always put strength training into my workouts. For example...here is what I programmed today...

      Warm up
      800meter run

      Strength..
      5x5 heavy squats

      Workout of the day..
      5 rounds for time
      400 meter run
      10 reps 155lb power cleans
      15 sit-ups

But this is just an example of one workout. But I do have to say...ANYTHING is better than doing nothing. Whether is lifting heavy...cross training or whatever you love...its always better than nothing!! I could never see myself not being active!
      Train hard everyone!
