Ok guys I have not run for a few years. I have started running lately and I am having trouble with my calves. My calves cramp up and become rock hard to the point i can bairly walk. This happens before I even get physically tired or run out of breathe. I am on cycle right now and I beleive proviron may be the culprate. I guess my question is does this happen to anyone else? I have never been much of a runner but I never had this problem with my calves which is what make me beleive that gear is the issue.

Is this only happening in your calves or shins too? Stretch those calves and do a good warm up before. Make sure you have good running shoes too. This happened to my nephew also when he he was traing before he went into the ARMY but it did subside. It is possible that you need to build up you calves as they may be a weaker part for you.

I remember I used to get calf pumps/shin splits fairly bad when I started running. I had to work on my stride and foot placement. I have a high arch in my foot and I was just stomping the ground pretty much. I lengthened my stride and pushed off more with the tip of my toes than pushing flat footed. If that makes any sense. That and some good shoes helped me.

to continue on with animals train of thought i would also like to add that if your doing calf raises in your normal weight lifting routine try cutting those out altogether. i had the same issue plus really REALLY bad shin splints, and once i discontinued working out my calfs i was all good.

it was so bad that once i got done jogging my legs were so stiff from all the pain that i felt like i was walking on stilts.
