The polyphenol fisetin is best known as a mood boosting and brain protecting nutrient. French researchers recently conducted a broad array of tests on fisetin in the context of bone health, considering that current drugs widely used for bone problems have such horrid side effects to bone health.
In established mice models of estrogen deficiency or inflammation-induced osteoporosis, fisten significantly prevented bone loss. Indeed, the bone mineral density as well as the quality of the bone micro-architecture were improved by fisetin. It did this by significantly modulating the core inflammatory gene signal, NF-kappaB, which drives bone loss when excessively active.
The researchers concluded that the results of their multiple experiments “strongly support that fisetin should be further considered as a bone protective agent.”
There are many nutrients that help to reduce inflammation in bone and preserve its health. Fisetin can be added to the team.
