A number of human studies in recent years show that green tea extract can help with weight loss. A new study documents that green tea extracts1 significantly lower total and LDL cholesterol.
A meta-analysis of 14 studies that involved 1,136 people demonstrated that green tea beverages and extracts lowered total cholesterol by 7.2 points and LDL cholesterol by 2.2 points on average. Both results were statistically significant and occurred regardless of any other interventions or health variables.
While green tea is not a magic bullet for this issue, it is one of many natural strategies that can help guide cholesterol metabolism in the right direction. Because many nutrients work in different ways to support healthy cholesterol metabolism, it makes sense for individuals working on this issue to employ multiple nutrients—one, of which, is green tea.
