A study followed 4162 American children for 20 years, documenting their intake of
omega 3 fatty acids as well as who developed asthma. It found that those with the highest intake of omega 3 fatty acids were 54% less to have asthma. It also found that DHA was the most protective omega 3 essential fatty acid.
Asthma is at epidemic proportions in the U.S. due to the overuse of antibiotics that has promoted a societal overgrowth of Candida albicans. Candida is then fueled by high sugar diets and replicates on junk fatty acids. As it replicates it produces oxylipins, generating significant inflammation, including inflammation in the respiratory tract that triggers asthma.
DHA is known to regulate the inflammatory process, reducing the degree of inflammation. It is therefore not surprising to find that higher DHA intake would prevent respiratory inflammation and reduce the risk for asthma.
We know that DHA is great for the brain function of children, teenagers, and young adults. This study points out that it is also good at helping to prevent the inflammatory process from getting out-of-control. Since vitamin D is another nutrient that prevents the immune system from overheating, both are good tools for preventing excessive inflammatory health challenges of any kind.
