I got this email from my local senator on kratom. Glad to see he is on our side.

Dear Mr. Eubanks:

Thank you for taking the time to contact me about Kratom. I appreciate hearing from you. As you may be aware, the DEA recently withdrew its plans to list Kratom as a Schedule 1 controlled substance. Recently, I sent a letter to DEA along with Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) asking them to reconsider the unprecedented Kratom ban. Not only has DEA used inappropriate emergency authority to enact this regulations, but it also has now ignored the proper process. It is my hope that DEA will thoughtfully consider Kratom and then use the proper process to have a discussion with experts before passing draconian regulations. I am sympathetic to the many patients who have found relief while using Kratom, and I recognize that it is already difficult to obtain the substance in a consistent, high-quality form. I do recognize and appreciate the efforts by an organization of Kratom users to develop an unofficial accreditation and testing system to protect patients as much as possible in the “wild west” regulatory environment that Kratom distribution has faced up to now. The answer to that unregulated market, however, is not necessarily draconian restrictions resulting from a Schedule 1 designation by the DEA.

This is not an issue that the Congress has considered extensively, and I would like to study it more. In the meantime, I will keep your views in mind.
Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me again about other important issues.
Sincerely,

Thom Tillis
U.S. Senator
