TweetBrian Bosworth's time for the Hall of Fame has finally come.
The controversial Oklahoma linebacker was announced Friday as one of 15 players and two coaches in this year's class.
The class was introduced during a news conference in Dallas on Friday morning.
Bosworth starred for the Sooners from 1984-86, developing the brash "The Boz" persona.
He won the first two Butkus Awards as the top linebacker in college football in 1985 and 1986 and remains the only two-time winner of the award.
His Sooners career ended in infamy, though, as he was suspended from the Orange Bowl following the 1986 season after testing positive for steroids.
During the game, Bosworth wore a t-shirt with that referred to the NCAA as "National Communists Against Athletes."
Bosworth did not return to the game after that game, instead entering the 1987 NFL Supplemental Draft, where he was selected by the Seattle Seahawks.
This recognition is long overdue, but we know the reasons why," legendary OU coach Barry Switzer said. "Brian probably could have gone in a decade ago with Keith Jackson. If youre the only two-time winner of the Butkus Award, you belong in the College Football Hall of Fame. He would have been a three-time winner if he had played another season at Oklahoma.
Brian was just a tremendous player, a true superstar. He was part of the best linebacker corps we had during my time at Oklahoma. They were all blessed with tremendous speed and were great competitors. That group led the nation in total defense all three of Brians seasons.
Bosworth's NFL career was short-lived as he suffered from shoulder injuries. He started 12 games in 1987, 10 in 1988 and played just two in 1989 before his career ended.
ESPN recently did a 30 for 30 documentary "Brian and the Boz" on Bosworth's rise to fame and his life since.
Bosworth will be the 21st Oklahoma player inducted into the hall. The most recent Sooner inducted was also the only other linebacker. Rod Shoate was inducted into the hall in 2011.
The induction ceremony will take place on Dec. 8 in New York City.

TweetHow many people had that haircut when they where a kid.
My only problem is that, if you are inducting him knowing that he tested positive(which I personally have no problem with by the way) then those same people can't say that Bonds, McGuire, Sosa, ect should not be in the baseball hall. To say well he should be there because he is the only one to win 2 Butkus Awards and over look the "cheating with PEDs", then all the great things those baseball players should count too because nobody else did them. Again I have no problem with his use as I don't with baseball either. I'm just saying....
Oh and yes I did try out the haircut, but dad didn't care for it too much and well. You can guess the rest. LOL
