Government Subsidies and Food Processing Monopolies have a Chokehold on American Farmers

The government is subsidizing the makers of high fructose corn syrup but doing nothing to subsidize the growers of healthy, fresh produce. That's issue number one. The second issue is that a very small number of very large companies control the food chain, from seed to plate. Farmers are held captive by huge food processing companies you may have never heard of, because they sell very few products directly to the general public.

Two major players are ADM (Archer Daniels Midland Company) and Cargill, each having ENORMOUS power in agriculture. Current.com reports Cargill has greater interests in soybean production and trade than any other company on the planet. Cargill is responsible for more than 75 percent of Argentina's grain and oilseed production and has partnered with the Gates Foundation to introduce similar soybean monoculture to Africa.

      So, here's how it works…

Food processors, like ADM and Cargill, sell the farmers seed, fertilizers and pesticides. Then when the crops come in, those food processors turn around and *** the corn and soy, processing it into high fructose corn syrup and soybean oil that they then sell to huge food industry clients, like fast food chains. They also own feedlots. According to "FRESH," 83 percent of commercial beef in the U.S. is processed by just three meat processors.

These players tell the farmers that, if they want to play the game, they play by their rules or not at all. These food-processing monopolies also promote GMOs. In 1998, Monsanto partnered with Cargill to develop and distribute genetically modified food and feed products.

Interesting. The government has, for years, been accused of several different conspiracies regarding the food put on store shelves for consumers to eat. The foods on those shelves, as you mention D, are processed and unhealthy. In addition to that, the foods we eat are also limited in the amounts of critical vitamins and supplements our bodies require that, over time, have an impact on our life span. Population control is a major initiative for the gov, as, the longer we live, the more likely we are to utilize goverment sponsored, public funded benefits.

free market my ass. this all started out to prevent farmers from all planting one high dollar per ton item and end up pushing down the value and ending in a huge surplus while others go sky high. now it is a inefficient way for the gov to control who plants what. pushed all the little farmers out.

ethanol in gas.that was subsidized, now we are stuck with fuel that gets less MPG and can be harmful to older cars

That article is so full of misinformation it's pathetic. I would like to know how he makes $3000 an acre by having a grass crop on it. Lol being a farmer myself that information irritates me but is so wrong it's laughable.

Thats good to know. Im sure the average person reading the article doesnt know about farming like you do.
Honestly, I am starting to wonder about Dr. Mercola. He seems more into scaring people than being rational. I have found that many of these fear articles he writes, in some way are selling a product with his name on it

Monsanto is the worst. That company is going to control all of the seeds in the not too distant future. They are working with the government to regulate the seed industry, with their sites appearing to be set on outright banning anyone from using seeds for business for personal use. Legislation was passed last year that already gives the power to the government to prohibit anyone, including families for personal use, from planting seeds. The bill gives the government and more specifically the FDA the authority to inspect anyones residence or farm that is growing crops, and if not in compliance with federal regulations, shut you down.

Controlling food and seeds leads to more power than controlling oil or anything else.
Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master. George Washington

I have not heard anything of the government or the fda coming to anyones farm wanting to know what type of seed your planting. Monsanto them selves have the ability to come to your farm and make sure your seed receipts match up with acres that you have planted. Now that only applies to soybeans as they have a patent on the roundup gene technology so you cant plant seeds that you harvested from the previous year.

As of now there is actually only two main seed producers for gmo seeds, Monsanto and Syngenta. There are still numerous companys that sell non gmo seeds and always will be as long as there is a demand for it. I have the ability to *** seed from anyone I choose and the ability to sell my crop to anyone I choose to. It is still a free market.
