TweetShooting his Sig .22 1911
TweetNice! What were you guys shooting at? How old is your son? I'm just waiting for Jacob to mature enough to be able to buy him something. He is about to be 10 but just isn't quite there yet....he is close.

he is 13. we started with airsoft guns and worked up to .22 rifles. he is now confident with anything but big caliber pistols. Teach them safety with a airsoft gun. accidents can be forgiven.
TweetI been teaching him safety with a BB gun. And watching him with that is why I say he isn't quite there yet. He still leaves the safety off when he is not shooting, occasionally still points it at people when he is moving around, etc...He is getting there though.

Tweetteaching them not to cover a person when not shooting even with an unloaded gun is important. bb, airsoft great starters. positive reinforcement works best IMO. praise them when they check for safety and keep the gun pointed safe at all times.
also tell them when you work hard and practice perfect gun safety they may get the responsibility of a real pistol
TweetGreat points! He is for sure getting better.
