September 7, 2011
SANTA MONICA, California (AP) - Actress Reese Witherspoon was struck by a car while jogging near Los Angeles on Wednesday morning and suffered minor injuries.
Santa Monica police Sgt. Richard Lewis says the Oscar-winning actress was hit by a car driven by an 84-year-old woman.
Witherspoon was jogging in an unmarked crosswalk in Santa Monica when the driver struck her at about 20 mph (32 kph).
The 35-year-old actress was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Lewis says the driver was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
Witherspoon's portrayal of June Carter in the 2005 film "Walk the Line" won her a best-actress Oscar.

LIFT BIG, EAT BIG, GET BIG!
TweetAnd the woman was 84?
Years back a girlfriend of mine was involved in an accident with an old man, probably around 80 or so. He did not care who's fault it was but was willing to pay for all damage as long as my girlfriend did not file a report and call police. Sure enough, the man paid over three grand for work done on her car. Thinking back, the reason the old man did this was becuase he could be in jeopardy of losing his license due to his age and slowign reflexes, eye sisght, etc. He did want to take that chance. Losing his license would also mean losing his freedom of mobility. However, to what other cost? Peoples lives?
TweetNeed to start retesting people 75 and up to keep your DL too many old people cant drive for shit out there
TweetYeah but keep in mind that old people was driving before we was. They piss me off also. My grand-dad is 91 . Lives on his own, drives to church and to pay bills and get groceries. I hope he doesn't wreck and hurt someone. But I can't take his keys away. If the law does then that is fine. But I can't. He plays music at the civic center down the road every thursday. If he couldn't get around he would have already been dead. It keeps him going...
TweetMakes my g-ma nervous too! She thinks she can still drive but KNowS that she is becoming less and less proficient. Must be hard losing something you've had all your live. And, must be hard accepting the realization that we all must come to an end.
Tweetwhen i was about 7 i was hit head on by an 80+ yr old lady.partly my fault but she never looked where she was turning.ran me right over on my bike.crushed my left thigh so bad they were thinking of amputating.lucky my father's a stubborn irishman.then they said the leg will never be the same as the other.i made the doctor turn those bolts everyday.i can still hear him walking down the hosp hallway, whistling while spinning that friggin ratchet.one nurse gave me her belt to chew on and would cry as he did it cause i screamed but wouldn't let him stop.at the end of my 4month stay the belt was chewed all the way thru.leg still has a metal rod in it but it's gtg.we sued but she passed before anything happened so i got zilch.they should take their licenses away at 70 and retest them every year imo.i get tired of sitting behind an old lady at a green light cause she won't move or can't see the light.or the ones that drive on the highway, which my state's 65,at 35-40mph...in the middle lane.slow drivers cause more accidents than speeders i think...

Tweetseriously, when you are jogging or on a bike, you cant expect that people in cars are going to yield and stop for you...
I had some dude come flying out of nowehere on a bike about a year ago...I was turning right at a stop sign and he was riding down the LEFT side of the road..there were hedges totally blocking my view and he was riding on the sidewalk and he rode right into the front of my car..I drove over his bike and he went flying...Thank God he wasnt hurt. I got out and read him the riot act and told him what an idiot he is for thinking I was supposed to see him ...
