Gelatin stimulates the release of growth hormone better than soy protein, alpha-lactalbumin, or milk protein. A study from Maastricht University in the Netherlands gave test subjects each type of protein (6.6 grams per kilogram of bodyweight) and measured changes in growth hormone for five hours. Growth hormone levels were up to 45 percent greater following gelatin consumption, compared to the other proteins. Gelatin is a colorless, tasteless meat byproduct. It is high in the amino acid arginine, which is a potent dietary stimulant of growth hormone. Growth hormone is a powerful hormone that promotes fat loss and strengthens connective tissue. We do not know the effects of dietary stimulation of growth hormone on athletic performance, muscle hypertrophy, and strength. Knox Gelatine is the most common brand of gelatin and is available at any grocery store. (European Journal Clinical Nutrition, 64: 441-446, 2010)
