We reported the rumor back in April and now the UFC has made the welterweight match up official for UFC 135 in Denver Colorado on September 24.
It will be the first time the UFC has been to "Denver" Colorado since 1995.
Matt Hughes last saw action in November 2010 when he stepped opposite BJ Penn. It was a bout that he lost in just 21 seconds of the very first round by knockout. Prior to the knockout the former champion was on a three fight winning streak which saw him get the better of Matt Serra, Renzo Gracie and Ricardo Almeida.
Diego Sanchez, who recently returned to his training home of New Mexico to train under long time coach Greg Jackson is currently on a two fight winning streak. He last saw action against Martin Kampmann in a highly contested main event when the UFC went to Kentucky for UFC on Versus 3. It was a “Fight of the Night” winning effort that many thought should have gone the other way.
