TweetThats pretty crazy for sure. 22lbs just seems like a lot.
TweetWhat you guys think?Fighters often move up in weight as they age, yet St-Pierre has remained a welterweight (170 pounds). How has he been able to do that?
Georges has been getting better at cutting weight. He’s walking around at 194 (pounds). There was a time when he used to walk around at 180 to make 170. He cuts weight so easily we added more muscle.
How do you drop 25 pounds and still retain your strength and explosiveness?
It becomes a game. Now he’s on a protein and vegetable diet. Right now his exercise is significantly cut, but he’s going to shed water. It’s only temporary weight loss. It’s not real weight loss. You’re not dropping fat. (The final weight-cut) lasts about six days . . . By Friday he’ll have six or seven pounds left and we’ll put him in the sauna. I don’t recommend this to anybody, even professional athletes. This is somebody who’s very seasoned.
As soon as the weigh-in is done (Friday afternoon) we’ll give him a recovery drink. We’ll even give him Prime (a workout supplement by Gatorade, which sponsors St-Pierre) because he needs the carbohydrates that much more . . . he’ll enter the ring at 192 or 193 pounds.
He can gain 22 pounds overnight without losing any speed or alertness?
You tell me after Saturday.

TweetI think if you are in a 170lb class your fight weight should be 170 no higher. I think its stupid that you can gain weight after the weigh in

Tweet22# isnt bad for a LHW but for a WW............................ wow.
TweetYEAH, HOW DOES THAT ACTUALLY WORK? FIGHT NIGHT HES NOT A WELTERWEIGHT...PLEASE EXPLAIN THAT TO ME
O2
TweetIt happens in every weight class sport. As long as you make weigh-ins, you are good to go. Just like in powerlifting....make the weight and you are in the class.
I don't really think it right because you have guys that either can't cut weight or they are just caught in between. These guys are at a disadvantage and should be complaining IMO

TweetTake GSP for example. He has beaten everyone and is talked about as P4P the best. But can he really be considered that? Should it take away from his glory a bit that he is HUGE compared to the guys he is fighting? That goes for everyone except the HWs. But then, even Brock has to cut to make weight at HW. Every top fighter does it.....
I take that back. Frankie Edgar is lucky to be big enough to be in LW. He should technically be cutting to 145 (going by every other fighter) yet he holds the title. To me, that puts him a bit higher on the pedestal. He is beating guys that are cutting a lot of weight. That says a lot in my book
