  • Americans upset at France. GET IN HERE!!!

This recent trend of Americans bashing the French has got to stop!

Your upset that France your supposed allie won't help you with the war on Iraq, but America has helped France in the past.

Mainly I'm hearing "The US helped liberate France in WWII and now they owe it to us to help". If you honestly believe that statement, I'm going to have to call you one of the stupidest short-sighted people around.

Let's get things straight: WHERE WAS THE US WHEN FRANCE WAS BEING OCCUPIED? America sat on it's ass and watched France (along with a bunch of other countries) get their asses kicked. American WATCHED this happen, and got RICH supplying these countries fighting wars. The US didn't join the war intill the Japs brought it to their front door and it couldn't be ignored anymore.

France sacrificed a hell of alot more in WWII. Their country got occupied, they lost lives and property on a 10fold scale of the US. French women and children were killed, their homes and fields burnt, their food taken, and their pets slain.

I think the American people should thank the French people for their supperior efforts and sacrifices during WWII. Not think that France owes them something, because in reality it's the other way around.

What do we owe France? We put and end to WWII. BTW, the Americans also lost millions of soldiers in that war so how can you say France lost more?

I'm sorry French casualties were not 10 fold of th U.S. even with civilian deaths included.
            check this site for numbers.

Also if the U.S hadn't got involved after the french were blitzkrieged in 20 days.
operation yellow started may 10,1940 Allied forces evacuate at dunkirk May 30,1940.

            timeline here.

They already had signed an armistice with Germany to cooperate with them.
            read here.

Of course the U.S. should have gotten involved earlier, thats why we are pro-active now.

The problem IMO is that every countrys history books are different. Honestly have you read other countrys high school or even college level history books? Even the countrys in europe the books are written differently. Not that it is spin either way but for so many kids and adults they believe that what they learned from school is accurate. It usually is IN THEIR COUNTRY Some just dont make the connection that history is never completely accurate, not in the least.

I as an American do not think France owes us anything. I just want our country to do what it needs to do without hurting people from any other allied countrys. I think America can do that and I honestly hope we do.

I said the loss of lives and property were 10fold.

According to that website, lives alone were approx 3x. Either way alot more than the American sacrifice.

Thanks for the timeline, but it really doesn't effect my argument much. Even if the invasion of France happened at about the same time as when the US joined the war, the US still sat back and watched France and other allies fight instead of helping.

Don't forget the purpose of my debate is to show Americans that France doesn't owe them anything.

Yes millions in WW 2. Anyone who knows about the war would know that. If the US didn't end the war, the Frech would be speaking German.

The French have always been rude to Americans. Thanks for the help in our war for independence. The French come at the last second...

And honestly, it is very possible that your interpretation of Americans bashing the French has to do with where you live. I don’t know of one person, well intelligent anyways, that I have spoken with that bashes France. Everyone I have talked with about the subject just thinks we need to move forward and not 'wait on France'. I agree as Frances' relationship with Iraq is far different than the relationship the USA has with Iraq.

And lastly we AS AMERICANS DON'T THINK FRANCE OWES US ANYTHING. On the global scale, it amazes me that France, Germany and Russian can sit back and as you said "watch" America police the world. The French are more content with "watching" and talking while Saddam slowly builds and hides weapons of mass destruction.

Well the U.S. attitude then was hey they are no threat to us.
In a way isn't that what France is saying now?
