TweetI guess, but if you are a HW then you are only supposed to train with smaller opponents? Seems like that would give you a false sense of confidence or whatever. I think it makes sense for a smaller guy to occasionally fight up a class though.
TweetMakes sense. I think it is absolutely stupid to train with guys that are in the same weight class as you knowing there is a very high possibility that you will have to fight them. What if you have 10 MWs training at the top facility in the US. That kills a ton of fights in the MW division."One lesson I learned from Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans is if there's any heavyweights in the UFC, I'm not gonna train with them anymore. Why would you? That's a potential opponent. If he gets any kind of advantage over you in the gym, learns a secret or knows something about an injury, that could potentially cost you a lot of money. I think in the future if guys are smart, they'll stop training with guys in their own weight class."
My take on it is, if you are joining a team that has other fighters in your division, when the time comes, you should HAVE to fight them. It's a business. Otherwise, fighters could get in on a team of the guy they never wanted to fight and then use it as an excuse.

TweetYou can still train with heavyweights, just don't join a "team" with them. The whole "team" concept and not fighting a teammate in such a large business with few actual "teams" is ridiculous! If you are on a team with 10 MWs and you are a middle weight and you are all in the UFC...you are eventually going to have to fight one another. The fighters should either stop crying about this and realize it is a business that they got into, or move on to another team or something.

TweetYea, I agree with that. The team thing is dumb. I would try to rotate partners anyway, you learn more and get to see new styles.
TweetWether you train in sport martial arts or train to save your life- either way you want to improve- Always always practice with those that you have problems with, those that scare the shit out of you. Otherwise you just baby yourself and will not get better. Train with all sizes and weights becaue every person has a different feel and you need to be ready to adjust to anyone or anything
