What happens in a Nuclear Meltdown?

TweetDoes it explode and sent radioactive rain down on everyone? Does it create radioactive clouds that float around the world?
Is that land unusable for like a thousand of years?
Just curious since this same thing can happen here in the US

the rods burn up, but the water that usually cools it turns to steam too quickly

alot of radiation in a meltdown is quickly disipated like smoke in a log fire
not usually that high

the problem is not getting it under control, otherwise you have a big concrete block of radioactivity that can't be touched, thus, the whole site ends up being worthless

per the pictures i've seen they have like 8 rod submersion buildings

i'd imagine one or two more goes and the whole thing is junk, although not a health risk unless some mega 10 quak hits and splits open the buildings which propably have several feet thick re-inforced concrete

the real issue is where do u get new electricity for 400k homes would be my guess

TweetGoogle Chernobyl....that was a bad melt down. 28 people died from the direct effect of radiation and some 4000 suffered different cancers from a lot of the radiation.

TweetChernobyl to this very day still spews radioactive particulates into the air.they were force to pur molten lead and concrete to cover what was left of the reactor rods but read up on the half life of what they use in those things.
it's called the "China Syndrome" due to the theory that it will just keep burning until it gets to the core of the Earth,which is plausible,altho not probable.in short we're f-ed as is all of Asia and depending on how the jetstream carries it in the atmosphere the rest of the world.it's bound to happen here.3-Mile Island was just a taste of what's to come.it's inevitable.
