Charlie, meet your new Angels. Casting has been completed for the Charlie’s Angels series remake pilot and, as one might expect, they’re crazy good looking. Say hello to Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor and Annie Ilonzeh (pictured, left to right below).

Fans of Friday Night Lights and college-aged remakes of Single White Female will recognize Kelly. Fans of Transformers will recognize Aussie actress Taylor as the hot babe who wasn’t Megan Fox. Fans of soaps — daytime and primetime — will recognize Texas-native Ilonzeh from General Hospital or the new Melrose Place.
Ilonzeh was cast last week and Kelly and Taylor were confirmed for their roles over the weekend. The pilot for ABC is being helmed by Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, which is a pretty good pedigree. They’ve already tapped Marcos Siega to film the pilot. Siega also shot the successful pilot for The Vampire Diaries as well as episodes of Dexter, Cold Case and Veronica Mars.
The threesome will become the newest incarnation of the sexy super sleuths first made famous in the ‘70s by Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Jaclyn Smith. The Angels rose again in the early 2000s as Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu turned into playful private eyes for a big-screen incarnation and subsequent sequel. Barrymore is also one of the producers of the new series.

The newest Angels will have their own interesting backstories. According to Deadline.com, Kelly’s character, Marisa, is as “a former U.S. Marine, a weapons expert trained in all forms of hand-to-head combat and a neat freak." Taylor’s Abby is the “the youngest and sassiest" with Krav Maga skills who comes from privilege as the daughter of a infamous Wall Street crook and is a con artist herself. Ilonzeh’s Kate is the most serious Angel who is an ex-cop and martial arts expert, but can also “let her hair down and have a great time."

Charlie’s Angels has always straddled the line between sexy and smart. It was branded as “Jiggle TV" in the ‘70s for, well, obvious reasons. I mean, have you seen them run? But the later film incarnations at least tried to serve up a shiny sprinkling of girl power along with its bikini shots. Here’s hoping the newest Angels takes that empowerment message and its powerful female characters another step further.
So, like the casting? Love the concept? Just want to watch them run in slow motion? Hello, Angels indeed.

Tweethuh....i dotn know about that. i dont think it's gonna go over well. depends on the story, but tv remakes are a hard sell
