my lap-dog does similar, and it relaxes me. If I'm kicked back watching tv. He'll come weasel up beside me on the couch. He'll creep as gently as possible, and lay his head on my chest, with a few looks out of the side of his eyes as if he's saying, "just this...please?..this is okay?"..lol...Once he relaxes his head on my chest, and he's all nestled up next to me. I can feel my heartrate fall. very relaxing. And ya do no wrong in their eyes. You're the greatest.

i did the same with my fawn boxer 3 years back. cancer had taken over her body so she had good days and bad. the day i had to put her down i took off from work and spent the entire day with her in the yard. let her eat and drink anything she wanted. held her head in my arms when they did the injection and we looked at each other the entire time until her eyes closed. i cried like a baby. Swore i would never get another pet because i get too attached. a few months later a got zeus, a male brindle boxer. love him.

Someone had a little female boxer puppy where I ate lunch the other day. That was one cool little pup. She was cute as could be too. made me think about getting a boxer. We need to get another dog. "poophead", my little terrier, is getting on up there. He's 11yrs old, and my other dog, the lap-dog, is only 2. So...he kinda needs somebody more his age to be a dog with. My little terrier is just a grumpy old man with him.

Then one day I took a girl for a tour of the animal shelter next door to my office..thats how I ended up with Bruno Jr...LOL...He is awesome, and I guess life is better with him. Cept that he scares the crap out of me when he runs off and is gone for several hours..ugh...the little shit

Will share my experience with losing my two dogs here. It may help others to mentally prepare with the inevitable loss of your pet. Its kinda sad so if you dont want to read it, thats ok.

My German Shephard, Bruno was 14 and got lymphatic cancer. One night I was talking on the phone, lying on the couch, Bruno was lying on the floor in front of me. I got off the phone, looked over at Bruno and he had stopped breathing. It was about 11 pm. I called the vet and asked what to do. He told me to set him outside on the snow because it was too warm in the house. I wrapped him in a blanket and set him down outside. I went inside and drank heavily. I woke up the next morning and drank some more. About 9 AM I went out and picked him up and carried him over to my horses. I held him under their noses...they were buddies..I was ballin...then, buried him under some trees. Brutal isnt a strong enough word....Its reality when it happens. It helps to prepare yourself mentally. We all have to do it someday.

A year later, Brunos son Brando, was put to sleep at the Vet. They kept him there frozen for two days and I had some friends go with me to pick him up. He was in a black trash bag. Frozen solid. I held him in my arms and put him in my Yukon. We went back to my place and buried him next to his dad Bruno. The shovel I used is still lying on their graves.

damn. That is definitely the rough part. man...sad stories.
14yrs is a heck-of-a run for a German Shephard. really. And also why we don't have one right now. My wife wanted 1. I grew up with Shephards. They're excellent dogs. Awesome!. But that 9 of 10 chance of their hips going bad well before their time...I just won't roll those dice. We had to put 3, that I can think of, down before, or right at, 10yrs old because of their hips. That's a tough one. Being the dog is perfectly fine in every other way.
Man Dzone. I know that had to be hard. The other animals that are attached to the dog makes it that much worse too.
But like you say. You gotta prepare yourself for that day when you get a dog. You have to digest the fact that you'll likely out live the dog, and have to bury them. It's just part of having a dog. The tough part.

      Exactly Horse.
I loved my German Shephards. Bruno was born in Holland and was trained there in Police work for a full year. When I got him, he was trained to attack, sniff out stuff, etc. He was an elite dog. Trained for Schtutzund competition. I bought him around 1995 and was 3 thousand then, same dog today could cost $12-15,000..so I couldnt pass up the deal at the time.
I would only buy a German Shephard in Europe. They have very strict breeding laws, unlike the USA where there are no regulations whatsoever. Eurpean GS have to have PERFECT hips or they cant breed. My two dogs lived a long time and NEVER had one single hip problem. Thank God. NEVER buy an American bred german shephard if you want a dog with guranteed good hips...Hope this didnt offend anyone.God Bless...The problem with American german shphards, most have been bred for size with no regard to hip problems. In Europe the dogs are bred for intelligence and athletic ability rather than size or appearance.
I would hope to one day again be able to afford another dog like Bruno.
I now have Bruno Jr from the animal shelter and he cost me 75 bucks. Incredibly, he is in many ways better than any dog I have ever had. German Shphards tend to love and focus on one person. Bruno Jr loves EVERYONE....hahaha
