We currently have wood shelves in our pantry and it really needs to be re-configured. So, I have been toying with the idea of taking the wood shelves out and doing some kind of adjustable wire system, so it can be easily changed in the future. Anyone have wire shelving in your pantry? If so, how does it work out? We don't like the wooden shelves that we have now and want to do something to change it...it is actually a project I am going to do this weekend.

Well, I ended buying a pantry kit that they had at Lowes.

So, I figured I would spend about 30 minutes taking the old shelves out and about an hour or so putting the new wire shelves up....WRONG!! The sheetrock got busted up pretty good when I was removing the old wood shelves. The mounts that the shelves actually sat on were nailed in and I had to use a hammer and small pry bar to get them off, which is what busted the sheetrock. So, I had to make another trip to Lowes to get some mesh tape and some mud to fix the holes. Once I put on 3 coats of mud, let it dry, and sanded it...that pretty much filled my Saturday up.

So I get up Sunday and sand off the last coat. Then I notice that you can still see where the repairs were and the bottom of the walls were scratched pretty good. I remembered I still had about half a gallon of paint in the garage. So, I decided just to repaint the entire pantry. So after cutting it in, rolling the paint on, allowing it to dry, and then installing the shelving.....that ate up a good chunk of my Sunday as well.

We like it a lot better, but what I thought would be about a 2 hour job, ended up taking most of the weekend. Funny how that works!

Seems like those little jobs always turn into big projects.

Does anything really go as planned?

I was going to mention a shelving system that i actually got at Home Depot. I couldn't get one system to fit due to the awkward size of the area. Had to cut my own down to size. Good thing about HD is you pay by the foot. similar to the lumber
