WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says it is "incredibly disappointing" that Senate Republicans blocked a bill to grant some illegal immigrants a chance to gain legal status.
In a statement, Obama says the Dream Act is the right thing to do for the county, and important for economic competitiveness, military readiness and law enforcement efforts. He says there was "simply no reason" not to pass the legislation.
The measure fell five votes short of the 60 needed to move forward Saturday. The bill would allow illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children a chance to gain legal status if they enroll in college or join the military.
Critics called the measure a back-door grant of amnesty that would encourage more illegal immigration.

Don't the idiots in this country who support it realize that this would make it harder for Americans to get into the military and college? These people act like there is an infinite number of jobs in the military and vacancies in colleges. Each illegal that goes to college here or joins the military equates to one more American who does not get the same chance. This crap disgusts me. It is so sad and pathetic that our politicians are willing to hand out citizenship to felons who broke the law. What ever happened to abiding by the laws of the land? And I'm also sick of always hearing some story about an illegal who was given the opportunity to go to school here and now has the chance to live the American dream. How about they stay in their country and have their own revolution like our ancestors did and set up a Republic in their land.
