Is it a fractured vertebra? Did they tell you it was a fractured disc?
Discs would typically degenerate(arthritis aka degenerative disc disease) and can tear because they are mainly cartilage. Discs can also bulge and herniate.
Vertebra can be fractured in several ways-Compression fracture, process fractures (spinous or transverse processes ) Fracture dislocations (spondylolisthesis) and a few other types not as common as these....a lot of spine fractures are discovered on x-ray years after they have healed..in many cases, old spine fractures are not clinically significant, meaning they are not a problem...a compression fracture is kind of like when you step on an upright soda pop can..these are very common in elderly people with osteoporosis and cause the humped back look..usually it is the front part of the vertebral body that collapses...
Anyway, not sure if this answers your question or not fuzo. Hope that helps a bit

You said that the fractures are common in the elderly, but how about in a younger person? Fuzo has had pain in the area where the fracture is and the doc wants to do facet injections there. What is your opinion on getting several injections in different areas of the back? I don't like the sound of all that. Does the injection medicine stay localized to the area or does it become systemic in the body?

Was the fracture recent? Or did he tell you it looks like an old fracture? That makes a big difference in treatment. Compression fractures can happen at any age from trauma. The dislocation fracture called a spondylo typi8cally happens in childhood. It is a fracture at L5-S1. Very common in gymnasts who fall on their butt or people who felll off a horse. Often, it heals and never casuses a problem and is only discovered later in life on an x-ray..IIRC, you said in another post that it was L4-5-S1. Was it on an xray that you saw the fractures?

Compression fractures in elderly are usually from osteoporosis, but in young people they are from trauma. The injections are something to try. You can get relief with them that could last a long time. If it is a recent fracture, it could keep you from hurting while that fracture heals. Im not sure how long the stuff stays concentrated in the area. Yes, slowly over time the body absorbs it and gets rid of it.

At that level then they are most likely compression fractures, which happen in the vertebral body and would be very easy to see on xray. Another possibility is fracture to the spinous or transverse processes. Process fractures would be more likely from a direct blow to the area, like a kick.
Are you having any neurological problems like shooting pain down your leg, or numbness or weakness in the legs? That would be very significant.
If you at any time get bladder or bowel dysfunction from this, then get to the emergency room asap. Thats called a cauda equina syndrome. Very serious.

The pain is just located in the hamstrings wich also can be cause by the psoas muscle which is in relation with the T12. No weakness or shooting pain just stys located in the hams and knees

Hmm, thats interesting. Are there any other issues going on besides fractures at T11-12? Like a bulging disc? Did you say they saw a tumor somewhere in your spine?

yeah the tumor was the fracture that they thought was something else. I'm going to the doc again tomorrow for trigger point injections to see if they will shoot me up in my trigger points so I can get some relief
